The Econometric Society has elected Sergei Guriev, Dean and Professor of Economics at London Business School, to its Fellowship, one of a distinguished cohort of 30 new Fellows announced for 2026.

Founded in 1930, the Society is an international body dedicated to advancing economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. Its main activities include publishing the journals Econometrica, Quantitative Economics and Theoretical Economics and a research Monograph Series, organising annual scientific meetings in six regions of the world, and holding a World Congress every five years.

Candidates for Fellow are nominated by members, Fellows and a Fellows Nominating Committee, and are elected by the Society’s active Fellows. The Society has been electing Fellows for more than 90 years, and the Fellows represent its highest authority. Election is a recognition of important contributions to economics. To date, 90 Fellows have won the Nobel Prize in Economics, 28 of whom have also served as President of the Society.

Speaking about his election, Professor Guriev said: “It is a great honour to be elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society. This recognition belongs as much to the colleagues and collaborators I have worked with as it does to me. That six LBS faculty are now Fellows says something about the strength of economics research at this School, and our commitment to rigorous, relevant scholarship that informs business and policy.”

Guriev joins five LBS faculty colleagues who are already Fellows of the Econometric Society: Professors Richard Portes, Hélène Rey, Jean-Pierre Benoît, Lucrezia Reichlin and Andrea Galeotti, who was elected in 2024.
