My greatest challenge when I applied to business school: Breaking into finance in Hong Kong with a science degree, in a market where most of the business world runs in Mandarin.
About me: I was born in India and grew up across Vietnam, Canada and Hong Kong, so I have done a lot of first days. I studied chemical technology in Hong Kong and graduated in 2024. Science was more or less the assumed path for me, and I enjoyed it, though somewhere in my final year I realised I wanted to spend my working life around markets instead.
Hong Kong is one of the financial capitals of the world, so I stayed and started knocking on doors. It took a while. I spent about a year and a half as a junior investment analyst at a long-only fund covering India and South East Asia. I then moved into investment banking at a boutique advising on power and infrastructure deals across the US, Australia and Asia. That is where infrastructure really clicked for me.
I chose London Business School for the network. I believe your network is the thing that opens doors, and London Business School has an extraordinary one. Being around people who are doing well makes you want to do well too.
Outside of work, I paint landscapes and have sold a few pieces in exhibitions. I play squash whenever I can find a court.
Three topics I can be approached about: Application process; recruiting; making the most of the London Business School network.
