My greatest challenge when I applied to business school: Balancing my analyst position with studying for the GMAT, while dealing with the uncertainty of maybe not getting onto my dream masters programme.
About me: I was 19 when I took over my family’s restaurant, along with its team of 18 staff members. Running a business that had to make money every day is where my interest in finance started: how companies are funded, how they are valued and what makes them grow. I followed that interest to Rotterdam School of Management, followed by an exchange to Peking University.
After internships in audit at Deloitte and equity research at Société Générale Asset Management, I joined Highlander Partners, a Dallas-based mid-market private equity firm, as an analyst in Bucharest. There, I spent most of my time inside two portfolio companies, working with the Dallas team on strategy and add-on acquisitions for its buy-and-build platforms. This gave me a close insight into how a thesis is delivered post-closing, as well as an interest in how deals are structured and valued. It pushed me towards M&A advisory, particularly energy transition and grid infrastructure. London Business School followed naturally; a programme built for transaction work, in the city where Europe’s deals get done.
What stood out most during my own application was how generous the School’s community is with its time. Students and alumni answered every question, and I arrived already feeling part of the School. That pay-it-forward culture is something I value and intend to uphold as a student ambassador. If you are considering the MFA, applying from abroad, or would like a candid view on CEE markets and regional private equity, I would be delighted to connect.
Three topics I can be approached about: Preparing for recruitment for both business school and employment; life on campus; balancing social and academic life.
