The Management Science and Operations area at London Business School invites applications for a fully funded postdoctoral research position starting from the academic year 2023/2024. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research at the interface of operations research, stochastic modelling, and market design. Working closely with LBS researchers and relevant academic/industry collaborators, the postdoctoral research fellow will contribute to projects in relation to the following topics:

  • Analysis of matching systems under uncertainty: This theme includes the study and theoretical analysis of matching & pricing algorithms and resource allocation mechanisms in stochastic environments, considering issues such as data-driven (or prediction-based) formulations, and repeated user/resource interactions.
  • Design of preference-aware assortment systems: The objective is to develop models and methodologies for assortment optimization, including content and product recommendations, considering issues such as dynamic preferences, engagement, and repeated user/platform interactions.
  • Analytics with application to cultural institutions: The goal is to develop and apply analytics methods (including the above-referenced ones) to enhance visitor experience in cultural institutions and curation. This theme will include opportunities for real-world collaboration and deployment.

Qualifications and details of post:

Applicants must have completed a PhD before the appointment in operations research, computer science, applied mathematics, econometrics, or a related field. They must demonstrate strong capabilities for conducting original theoretical or applied research using tools from algorithm design, stochastic modelling, market design, or machine learning. Ideal candidates must have a strong interest in the cultural sector, taken in a broad sense.

The position is funded by a research grant. The term is one year, extensible to two years, subject to continued satisfactory performance. We will offer a competitive salary and full access to the LBS environment.
