Ioannis Ioannou is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School. He is a leading strategy scholar whose research focuses on sustainability and corporate responsibility (CSR), and the strategic integration of environmental and social issues, seeking to understand whether, how, and the extent to which the modern business organisation contributes towards building a sustainable future. His award-winning work evolves around two main themes: understanding how the broader investment community perceives, evaluates and reacts to corporate engagement with environmental and social issues into strategy, and understanding the multiple and multilevel factors that may affect the corporate decision to adopt environmentally and socially responsible strategies.
His research has been published in top-tier academic journals including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Organization Science, The Accounting Review and Journal of International Business Studies. With over 20,000 Google Scholar citations, he ranks as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (top 0.1% worldwide, 2022). He serves as Associate Editor of Management Science, Guest Associate Editor of Strategic Management Journal, and Consulting Editor of the Journal of International Business Studies. His insights reach broader audiences through op-eds and commentary in Fortune, Forbes, the Financial Times, and Project Syndicate.
Professor Ioannou has taught on the MBA and EMBA Core Strategy courses at LBS, and several other degree programmes including the Masters in Finance, the Emerging Leaders Program and senior executive programmes including the Senior Executive Programme (SEP). He is a regular contributor to multiple LBS executive education programmes including modules on Responsible Business and Sustainability. His 6-week online course on Sustainability Leadership and Corporate Responsibility, which earned the Financial Times Responsible Business Education Award, has enrolled more than 1,000 senior leaders and Board members from around the world.
He advises leading organisations on sustainability strategy, serving on the Sustainability Advisory Panel of Merck KGaA (Co-Chair), the Advisory Council of the European Institute of Management and Finance, and the World Economic Forum's Expert Network on Sustainable Development.
