Adjunct Assistant Professor of Management Science and Operations

BSc (Milan) MSc (Heriot-Watt University) MRes (London) (Reading) PhD (Reading)

Chiara Maiocchi is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Management Science and Operations. She holds a BSc in Pure Mathematics from the University of Milan, an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Heriot-Watt University and an MRes and PhD in the Mathematics of Planet Earth from Imperial College London and the University of Reading.

Chiara teaches analytics-oriented courses at London Business School, combining her expertise in mathematics, modelling and data-driven decision-making with practical business applications.

Chiara’s research looks at complex and chaotic systems, with a particular focus on climate and atmospheric dynamics. She focuses on the development of mathematical and modelling tools that aid in the estimation of statical properties of atmospheric models. Her approach has been instrumental in the detection of large-scale, persistent weather patterns like heat waves.

Chiara is a Member of the Centre for Mathematics of Planet Earth, an institution of interdisciplinary science whose research activities are at the crossroad of mathematics, geoscience and theoretical physics. Her writing has appeared in numerous journals, including Physica D and Chaos.
