With respect to the “What” question, we need to ask ourselves whether the traditional “make and sell” model is still valid. Recent advances in technology and social norms around transparency are putting pressure on companies to be more accountable - that is, to assume more commercial risk and profit from the value they deliver (i.e., an outcome such as consumption or performance) rather than the products they make. We will use examples from many sectors to explain this point, mapping the evolution of markets to a point where money flows to proof rather than promises. The goal is that you understand this challenge and see the opportunity to attract and retain customers, differentiate from competitors and motivate employees.
