Hélène Rey, London Business School’s Lord Raj Bagri Professor of Economics, has received the 2023 Adam Smith Award from the National Association for Business Economics (NABE).

She was chosen for the award because her research has changed the way major institutions conduct policy and the way international monetary linkages and spillovers are understood.

Professor Rey’s research focuses on the determinants and consequences of external trade and financial imbalances, on international monetary policy transmission and the global financial cycle and the organization of the international monetary system.

The award was presented to Professor Rey during NABE’s 65th Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas, USA at which she delivered the 2023 Adam Smith Award Address.

Speaking about her award, Professor Rey commented:

“I am absolutely thrilled to have received this award. I am in extremely illustrious company with the likes of Janet Yellen, Ken Rogoff and Raghuram Rajan having received this award in the past. Having spent many years admiring and learning from the work of numerous of my fellow Adam Smith award winners since the award was first introduced in 1982, I am humbled and honoured to have been named as this year’s recipient.”
