Professor Andrew Scott awarded CBE in 2026 New Year’s Honours

London Business School is delighted to congratulate Professor Andrew J. Scott CBE on his appointment as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in His Majesty’s 2026 New Year’s Honours List, recognising his distinguished service to economics, research and public discourse.
Professor Scott is one of the world’s leading experts on the economics of longevity and ageing societies. His work bridges academic research, public policy and real-world impact, shaping global thinking on how longer lives transform economies, careers and social systems. He is Professor of Economics at London Business School, Senior Director of Economics at the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. In 2018, he co-founded The Longevity Forum with investor Jim Mellon and Dafina Grapci‑Penny, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. His research has been published extensively in leading journals and is frequently featured in global media.
A noted author, Professor Scott co-wrote the international bestseller The 100-Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity with Professor Lynda Gratton, a book that has been translated into multiple languages and was shortlisted for prestigious awards, including the Financial Times/McKinsey Business Book of the Year. He most recently published The Longevity Imperative, further advancing global dialogue on healthy and productive longer lives, a compelling manifesto on adapting to longer, healthier lives that was selected as one of the Financial Times’ best summer economics reads and went on to be shortlisted for the Financial Times & Schroders Business Book of the Year Award, drawing wide acclaim in global media for its positive re-framing of longevity as an opportunity.
His academic leadership extends beyond publishing. Professor Scott has held senior editorial roles, including Managing Editor of the Economic Journal and has been awarded competitive research grants from bodies such as the Economic and Social Research Council for work on longevity economics.
Outside academia, he has served in influential policy and advisory capacities, including as Non-Executive Director of the UK’s Financial Services Authority and as an advisor to governments, central banks and the UK Office for Budget Responsibility. He is a long-standing member of the Cabinet Office Honours Committee (Science and Technology) and co-founder of The Longevity Forum, reflecting a career committed to public engagement and policy relevance.
