LBS economist to continue shaping European macroprudential policy through 2030

Professor Richard Portes of London Business School has been reappointed to the Advisory Scientific Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) for a further four-year term.
The reappointment, confirmed following the ESRB’s latest General Board meeting, extends his tenure until March 2030 and reflects his continued influence in shaping Europe’s macroprudential policy agenda.
Portes’ role on the Committee places him at the centre of the ESRB’s work advising on systemic financial risks across the European Union, including emerging threats linked to geopolitical instability, market volatility and the evolving structure of global finance. His reappointment follows a period of significant contribution to ESRB initiatives, including co-chairing its high-profile work on crypto-assets and financial stability. Recent ESRB-backed research has highlighted the systemic implications of stablecoins and cross-border financial innovation, helping to inform EU policy responses.
