MBA students meet best business minds in Hong Kong

London Business School MBAs discover regional outlook for business

London Business School students on the Global Business Experience in Hong Kong

93 MBA students have returned from a London Business School Global Business Experience (GBE) in Hong Kong.

The London Business School GBE to Hong Kong offers students real-world business experience as part of their MBA programme.

Neil Sood was among the MBA students who travelled to Hong Kong, which also included a trip to Shenzhen for a day.

“The week was filled with company visits, case study assignments, lectures from professors and experts on China and Hong Kong, and a very spirited debate among London Business School students on the final day. Each day we had a lecture in the morning, and a company visit at night, followed by deep introspection as students discussed the day’s events.”

“It was not only informative, but also fun to be exposed to the culture and issues that are particular to Hong Kong.”

He says the GBE proved a tremendous learning experience which saw the students meeting with influential leaders in Hong Kong and exposed them to business issues in the region.

One of the main highlights of the programme for Neil was a day trip to Shenzhen to meet a panel from the Chinese PE/VC sector. Neil says, “It provided an opportunity to understand some of the constraints the fast-growing sector in Hong Kong has faced.”

In addition, a number of the students had the opportunity to tour the headquarters of Tencent, the Chinese investment holding company, where they were able to discuss the firm’s outlook with Tencent’s head of strategy.

Neil says the biggest take-away from the week was a better understanding of the growth constraints and opportunities in China and Hong Kong.

“China will only gain further in importance in the global socio-economic order, despite a slight slowdown of growth. Hong Kong has had a role in China’s financial sector development and its importance in the future is a hotly debated issue for Chinese and Hong Kong citizens alike.”

During the week, students were given the opportunity to apply theory from their studies to organisations in the region.

London Business School GBEs are highly anticipated by MBA students. The School annually is committed to taking all second year MBA students, (approximately 410 this academic year), on GBEs to emerging and developed countries as part of their programme of study, to put business theory into practice. Countries include Hong Kong, India and the US, among others.
