LBS’s Marcel Olbert among best MBA Professors in the world

Marcel Olbert, Assistant Professor of Accounting at London Business School (LBS) has been recognised by Poets & Quants (P&Q) as one of the most talented young professors currently teaching on an MBA programme.

He was honoured in the 12th edition of P&Q’s annual celebration of MBA professors under the age of 40, who are considered to be the best in class globally for their transfer of knowledge and experience.

Professors on this year’s list come from 34 different business schools across the globe. LBS is one of 16 schools outside of the United States that feature on the list, more than any other year. Just over half (21) of the 40 professors featured are women.

Overall, P&Q received more than 1,000 nominations from students, colleagues, administrators, and professors themselves. P&Q’s editorial staff evaluated each nominee on teaching (given a 70% weight) and research (given the remaining 30% weight).

Marcel’s research focusses on the real effects of corporate taxation and disclosure regulation. His research has been published in top-tier academic journals in the fields of accounting and finance. With a remarkable academic track record for his age, Marcel’s expertise is sought after by policymakers, such as the European Parliament where he has spoken on tax policy in times of climate change and high inflation.

He teaches Financial Accounting as part of the core MBA curriculum, demonstrating outstanding effectiveness in conveying the key concepts around firms’ financials to MBA students in only five weeks. From 2025 onwards, Marcel will increase his work in this area by offering a new elective course, open to MBA students and other programmes, titled 'Taxes and Transparency for Sustainable Business'.
