AQR announces winners of the Fellowship Award 2017

AQR Fellowship Award recognises rising scholars in asset management

The AQR Asset Management Institute is pleased to recognise the AQR Fellowship Award 2017 recipients, Ramona Dagostino and Elena Gerko, PhD candidates in Finance and Economics at London Business School (LBS), for their outstanding academic achievements and research contributions to the field of asset management. The AQR Fellowship Award includes a prize of £10,000 for each winner.

This year’s award was presented by Stephen Schaefer, Professor of Finance and Academic Director, AQR Asset Management Institute at LBS, and Antti Ilmanen, Principal at AQR Capital Management, during the third annual Insight Summit held by LBS’s AQR Asset Management Institute on 7 November 2017.

David Kabiller, Co-Founder of AQR, said: “We are pleased to congratulate the recipients of this year’s AQR Fellowship Award, Ramona Dagostino and Elena Gerko. This award recognises Ramona and Elena for their academic excellence and innovation, helping to bring new perspectives on today’s complex investment environment to light. Ramona Dagostino, PhD candidate in Finance at LBS, said: “Receiving the AQR Fellowship Award is a great honour for me. I am extremely grateful to the AQR Asset Management Institute for its generous support, both through the Fellowship and through its research grants. I want to thank everyone involved with the Institute for enabling generations of young scholars at LBS to pursue excellence in their research.” Ramona was also a recipient of an Institute grant.

Elena Gerko, PhD candidate in Economics at LBS, said: "I am deeply honoured to receive the AQR Fellowship Award. I would like express my sincere gratitude to the AQR Asset Management Institute for their generosity. The Institute’s support of young scholars at LBS is very important to promote excellence in asset management-related research."

Professor Anna Pavlova said: “Ramona Dagostino and Elena Gerko are superb young scholars who have both produced sound academic research that is highly relevant in today’s world. Ramona is recognised for her research on the US municipal market, in particular the role played by banks in affecting local governments’ access to finance, and Elena for her work at the intersection of macroeconomics, monetary and international economics, in particular the role of expectations and learning. We wish them continuing success in their future careers.”

The AQR Fellowship Award is part of a series of awards established by the AQR Asset Management Institute to recognise and advance excellence in asset management among rising scholars and future industry leaders.
