London Business School has conferred honorary awards to Olivier Blanchard and Neil Woodford CBE.
Olivier Blanchard has been awarded an Honorary Degree and Neil Woodford CBE an Honorary Fellowship.
Olivier Blanchard is a professor of economics at M IT and a Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC. A native of France, he has spent his professional life in the US as a macroeconomist, working on a wide set of issues including the role of monetary policy, the determinants of unemployment, transition in former communist countries and the forces behind the recent global crisis. He is an Officier de la Legion d’honneur and has been nominated to be the next President of the American Economic Association. He obtained his PhD at MIT.
Neil Woodford CBE began his career with the Dominion Insurance Company before forging a formidable reputation at Perpetual (now Invesco Perpetual), running two of the UK’s biggest retail funds. He set up Woodford Investment Management LLP in 2014, where he is Head of Investment and lead fund manager on the £9bn CF Woodford Equity Income Fund and of the £780m Woodford Patient Capital Trust. He is an alumnus of London Business School and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the economy in 2013.

Each year, London Business School confers Honorary Degrees, Honorary Fellowships and Fellowships to distinguished individuals. Honorary Degrees recognise academics of other institutions of international standing with a connection to the School. Honorary Fellowships are for those who have rendered exceptional service to the School and/or attained outstanding distinction in business.
The honorary awards were presented at the School’s Congregation, which saw more than 1,100 students from 86 countries celebrate the completion of their MBA, Executive MBA, Masters in Finance, Sloan Masters in Leadership and Strategy, Masters in Management and PhD programmes.
