About me: After completing my undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of Edinburgh, I spent four years working in the research team at global equity manager Walter Scott & Partners (part of the BNY Mellon Group). While at Walter Scott, I discovered a passion for equity research and fundamental investing. At its core, investing is about taking a view on what the future might look like—and allocating capital based on this view. It’s an enormously rewarding job that comes with a lot of responsibility; I can think of nothing more exciting or engaging that I’d rather spend my time doing. My role at LGT allows me to combine this passion for research with portfolio management and client service responsibilities.

I decided to apply to LBS for a number of reasons. Top of the list was how quickly the world of finance is evolving. Although the long-term consequences of AI are not well understood, it’s clear that the technology promises to reshape how we think, work and live. The future of the industry is uncertain and, to succeed, investors need to equip themselves with the necessary toolkit to take advantage of this uncertainty. The Masters in Finance at LBS offers this—and more. Combining academic excellence with hands-on case studies and learning from the real world really sets LBS apart. A truly international programme, students from all over the world are brought together in the classroom. I can personally attest that the diversity of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives has a significant pedagogical impact, enhancing the quality of discussion and debate. I love working alongside peers who share my motivation, enthusiasm and love of the subject, and who challenge me and continue to teach me new things about the world and myself. I am confident I will leave LBS a more well-rounded investor—well prepared for the uncertainty of the future.

Beyond LBS and the world of investing, I love CrossFit and telling people how much I love CrossFit. Sticking to my Northern roots, I am also an avid fan of Newcastle United.

Three topics I can be approached about: Liaising with the Careers Centre as a part-time student (I am a Careers Rep for my part-time cohort, acting as a bridge between my peers and the Careers Centre); CFA versus Masters in Finance—how do they compare and why I chose to do both; navigating the application process and selling your authentic self.
