Sir Andrew Likierman

Professor of Management Practice in Accounting

Professor Andrew Likierman's current research focuses on human judgement, with published work on judgement in leadership, on the Board and in professions. His book "Judgement at Work: Making Better Choices" was published in January 2025, reflecting his research in this critical area of decision-making.

Professor Likierman was educated at the University of Vienna and Balliol College Oxford. He teaches a wide range of courses and has served in administrative roles, including as founding Director of the Executive MBA programme and as Dean from 2008 to 2017. His career has spanned the public and private sectors as well as professional life. In the public sector, he was a member of the Cabinet Office Central Policy Review Staff and was one of the Managing Directors of the UK Treasury and Head of the UK Government Financial Service, where he led the project that changed the basis of government planning, control and reporting from cash to accruals.

He has held numerous non-executive positions, including Non-executive Chairman of the National Audit Office and market research firm MORI. His other non-executive roles have included Director of the Bank of England and listed insurance company Beazley plc. As an executive, he worked as a management accountant with Tootal Ltd, ran a textile plant in Germany, and was Managing Director of the overseas division of Qualitex Ltd. He is a past President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, was a member of Cadbury Committee on corporate governance and was one of a group of six world experts asked by the Secretary General to review the corporate governance of the United Nations.
