João Cocco

João Cocco is Professor of Finance at London Business School. His research spans a wide range of topics including household finance, banking, corporate governance, asset allocation, real estate finance, and pensions. His work has been published in leading finance and economics journals including  Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Journal of Monetary Economics, and has been featured in the Financial Times, The Times, The Actuary, and  Pensions Week.

An accomplished teacher, João currently teaches Corporate Finance and Real Estate Finance at London Business School across the MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD programmes, and has won numerous teaching awards throughout his career. He has also held several consulting posts.

João has been a member of the London Business School faculty since 1999, serving as Finance Department Chair from 2021 to 2023, Chief Examiner from 2018 to 2021, and Faculty Director in Executive Education from 2014 to 2017. He is a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research, a Fellow of the Centre for Financial Studies, a Senior Fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research, and a Founding Member of the CEPR Network on Household Finance. He serves as Editorial Board Member of Economic Policy, the Review of Financial Studies, and the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance.
