François Ortalo-Magné

François Ortalo-Magné works with students, executives and boards on the economic, organisational and ethical dimensions of leadership, drawing on his experience across higher education, business and public organisations. His current teaching spans economics, strategy, resilience, ethics and financial institutions, helping students use academic research to gain fresh perspectives on leadership and management in practice.

He served as Dean and CEO of London Business School from 2017 to 2024 and as Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business from 2011 to 2017, leading both through periods of strategic change and external disruption. He currently serves on the boards of GMAC (US) and Tanla Platforms (India).

An economist by training, François began his career at the London School of Economics before moving to the Wisconsin School of Business. He also held visiting appointments at HEC Paris, Toulouse School of Economics and The Wharton School. His research focuses on housing, land and urban economics, with publications in policy outlets and academic journals including the American Economic Review, the International Economic Review and the Review of Economic Studies.
