Luchi He
- Programme: PhD in Strategy and Entrepreneurship
Bio:
Luchi He is a Ph.D. candidate in Strategy & Entrepreneurship department at the London Business School who is on the 2025-2026 job market.
Luchi’s research interest lies at the intersection of strategic human capital, labor economics and organization design, with an emphasis on the effect of organization design choices on employee productivity. I examine how key elements of organization design—including incentive systems, task assignments, manager-employee matching, and organizational restructuring (e.g., centralization)—shape employee behavior.
Her work spans a range of empirical settings, including the hospitality and retail industries. Her job market paper draws on in-depth qualitative interviews and rich proprietary archival data from a multi-store restaurant chain operating across the U.S. and Canada to investigate why employees within the same organization often vary in their tendencies to prioritize quantity or quality when producing output. She examines this question by tracing back to employees’ on-boarding experiences to a new job and finds that their experience of demand uncertainty in the product market at the beginning of a job can leave a lasting effect on their focus on prioritizing quantity or quality in subsequent periods.
