Preparing for an Ageing Society
Professor Lynda Gratton gives evidence at the UK House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee inquiry

Lynda Gratton, Professor of Management Practice in Organisational Behaviour at London Business School gave oral evidence on 13 May to the UK House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee inquiry ‘Preparing for an Ageing Society’. The inquiry has a particular focus on workforce ageing and the prolongation of working lives.
Speaking along with Warwick Institute for Employment Research’s Professor Philip Taylor and Professor Wendy Loretto from Edinburgh Business School, Professor Gratton offered her views on the choices and challenges facing the over-50s regarding work and retirement, including the impact of technological advancements on older workers’ job prospects. Evidence was also presented on the skills required to remain in the workforce, overseas public policy, intersectionality and age, and public advocacy.
An expert on the world of work and ageing, Professor Gratton is the co-author alongside Professor Andrew Scott of The 100-Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity and The New Long Life: A Framework for Flourishing in a Changing World, which was recently named by Thinkers 50 as one of ten management classics for 2025.
