London Business School to host local children's picnic

London Business School has invited around 25 families from the nearby Portman Early Childhood Centre in Church Street, Marylebone, to its campus for a Teddy Bears' Picnic on Wednesday 14 August.

The School is working closely with the centre in developing ways to consolidate its income, ensuring that all of the services currently on offer for families in the Church Street area are protected.

“London Business School has an active Community Action Group, which promotes volunteering amongst its staff. The School has partnered with organisations such as Career Academies UK, Young Enterprise and Kids Company and is actively building a relationship with the local community, particularly in the nearby Church Street area”, said Tina Clark, chair of the Community Action Group at London Business School.

“We are privileged to have a lovely garden on campus and are delighted that we are able to open it up to local families from the Portman Centre to enjoy a picnic with us”, she continued.

Within the vibrant Church Street area in Marylebone, many families rely on the Portman Centre to ensure they are able to help themselves and reach their full potential in life.

Families attending the picnic event on the front lawn can expect to enjoy face painting, games and much more, after volunteers from the School's Operations Delivery team and the caterers, Lexington expressed their enthusiasm for the project.

“We are really delighted to have such a positive relationship with the London Business School. The School has already been extremely helpful and their expertise is proving to be invaluable. The picnic is an opportunity to have some fun - having a good time with your child is important for everyone and enjoying strong family relationships is a big part of being a parent”, said Joanna White, head teacher at the Portman Early Childhood Centre.

The Portman Early Childhood Centre offers free parenting support and information for the local area, and is one of 12 children's centres across the borough of Westminster.

Although children are the main focus of the centre through childcare, early education and health services, parents also receive a number of services from parenting classes, to help getting back to work and adult education classes.
