London Business School alumni scale Kilimanjaro for charity
London Business School graduates are to celebrate their graduation with a charity climb up Kilimanjaro this month.
On 12 October a total of 21 alumni from the 2013 graduating class of the School's Executive MBA are going to Tanzania to try and scale Africa's highest mountain (19,341ft) in aid of Stand Up and Build, a charity that is focused on educational development in Burundi.
They hope to raise £50,000 to build educational and community infrastructure with Burundi residents. This will include building a technical college where the local community can learn construction skills.
Burundi, on the western border of Tanzania, has one of the poorest economies and is ranked in the bottom three countries with the world's lowest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per person, according to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
People can support the team via its Just Giving page.
It costs an estimated £500 a year to fund a teacher who speaks Kirundi, French and English.
The money raised will provide vital support for community education:
- £1 buys 100 bricks
- £7 buys a 50kg bag of cement
- £90 pays for a year's secondary education
- £3 buys a school bag.
