Dr Linda Yueh CBE appointed to Board of Independent Football Regulator
LBS economist to help shape governance of English football at pivotal moment for the national game

London Business School warmly congratulates Dr Linda Yueh CBE on her appointment as a Non Executive Director of the Independent Football Regulator, following her selection by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
The Independent Football Regulator has today announced the appointment of five new Non Executive Directors to its board. Dr Yueh joins Tara Warren, Justine Roberts CBE, Mark McCafferty and Kevin Miles OBE in strengthening the regulator’s leadership at a pivotal moment for the national game. Together, the new board members will work alongside existing directors to shape the strategic direction of the regulator and oversee the approval of policy and regulatory decisions that will define a new era of governance in English football.
The creation of the Independent Football Regulator marks one of the most significant reforms in the modern history of the sport. Established in response to widespread concerns about financial sustainability, ownership models and fan protections, the regulator has been designed to safeguard the long term health of the game while preserving its competitiveness and cultural significance. Football in England is both a global industry and a deeply rooted community institution. Ensuring responsible governance, financial resilience and transparency is therefore not only a sporting priority but also an economic and social imperative.
By bringing together leaders with expertise across football, sport, finance and economics, the regulator aims to provide rigorous, impartial oversight of a sector that contributes billions to the UK economy and commands the loyalty of millions. The breadth of experience represented in these new appointments will be instrumental as the organisation begins its work regulating the governance of the nation’s favourite sport. Sound regulatory frameworks are essential to maintaining trust, protecting clubs and supporters, and strengthening the foundations of the football pyramid for generations to come.
Dr Yueh’s appointment is particularly significant given her internationally recognised expertise in economics, finance and public policy. Her insight into global markets and regulatory systems will add considerable strength to the board as it navigates complex financial structures and evolving ownership landscapes within the game.
Dr Linda Yueh CBE is an Adjunct Professor of Economics at London Business School and a globally respected economist, broadcaster and author. She has advised governments, financial institutions and multinational organisations on economic strategy and policy, and has served on several high profile boards and commissions. A Fellow in Economics at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford, she is also widely known for her media work, including as a former Chief Business Correspondent for BBC News.
Her acclaimed books include The Great Economists and The Great Crashes, which explore the ideas that have shaped the global economy and the lessons learned from financial crises. In recognition of her services to economics and public policy, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
London Business School celebrates this well deserved appointment and looks forward to seeing the impact Dr Yueh will make in strengthening the governance and sustainability of English football at this crucial juncture.
