Diversity on display at Congregation 2017
92% of LBS’s graduating MBA students are from outside the UK
The London Business School (LBS) MBA Class of 2017 is the most diverse yet, with 92% of students hailing from outside the UK. The students were among thousands celebrating their graduation at Congregation, taking place over July 13 and 14 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
“It is a real pleasure to congratulate those who are joining the ranks of our distinguished graduates,” said Sir Andrew Likierman, Dean, LBS. “This is a day when everybody has a sense of achievement and pleasure and that’s good to be around. It’s quite special.” The graduates are now proud members of LBS’s alumni network, which comprises more than 42,000 successful professionals around the world.”
Taking advantage of the School’s strong recruiter connections, 96% of LBS’s MBA students who graduated in the summer of 2016 received a job offer within three months, according to the 2016 MBA Employment Report.
The MBA programme has continually evolved since its inception 50 years ago, reflecting both the changing nature of management and the increasing variety of career paths MBA graduates choose to pursue. While some MBA graduates still follow the traditional banking or consultancy route, others now choose to work for tech companies such as Google – or to launch their own start-up.
The happy crowd included the first ever Masters in Financial Analysis (MFA) graduating class. The MFA, launched last September, is aimed specifically at young talent with a numerate undergraduate degree who want to gain the latest skills and tools needed to enter the finance industry.
Seventy-nine students successfully completed the pre-experience programme and are now headed for careers in finance. They too are a diverse group: they joined LBS from a range of professions including banking, consulting and fintech. There are 37 nationalities in the class and more than a quarter of them are women.
