Richard Hytner, Adjunct Professor of Marketing, London Business School and former deputy chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi, has launched a new creative management consultancy, beta baboon.

Hytner, whose teaching portfolio at London Business School includes commitments to custom programmes and open Executive Education programmes including Leading Businesses into the Future; Professional Services: Next Generation Leadership; and Strategic Branding, launched the new consultancy this month.

Quoting Neil Bemment, Curator of Mammals at the Paignton Zoo, Hytner explains the inspiration behind the new venture: “Baboons love a challenge. The more complex it is, the more curious they become. They will investigate anything put in front of them, do everything to rip it apart and then play with it. They are unbelievably resourceful and, make no mistake, they will solve most problems. And that’s what we will be doing to help our clients outperform their ambition.”

Hytner is joined by Inken Dachsel, formerly client services director of his global strategy practice and now beta baboon’s managing partner; and Terry Kelly, beta baboon’s operations director.

beta baboon will facilitate courageous conversations with leaders in and beyond the boardroom, reveal customer and managerial insights, and help to articulate and deliver their clients’ boldest aspirations.

Hytner says: “Inspiring our clients to live a life in permanent beta will help them create, test, apply, learn from and improve their best ideas for the business.”

Prior to beta baboon, Richard Hytner was with Publicis Groupe for 18 years. As its CEO, he helped to grow Publicis to the No. 2 agency in the UK and, after a sabbatical year to complete the Sloan Masters in Leadership and Strategy at London Business School, he joined Saatchi & Saatchi’s WW Executive Board, leading and growing for three years, the creative company’s EMEA business.

For the last eight years, as the creative company’s worldwide deputy chairman, Richard and his team have worked with many of Saatchi & Saatchi’s clients, helping to articulate their organisational purpose and brand strategies. His book, Consiglieri: Leading from the Shadows (Profile Books 2014) celebrated the craft of the enigmatic betas who serve their alpha leaders.

Robert Senior, Saatchi & Saatchi’s WW CEO says: “Richard has been a terrific leader and source of intellectual capital as well as sage career counsel. I am delighted to be one of beta baboon’s first clients, as well as to extend office space to Richard and his new troop of baboons.”
