Maximilian Weber

Education: Masters, University of Oxford, UK; graduated in 2023

Subject: Chemistry

Sector(s) of interest: Investment Banking, Private Equity

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school: Determining how my non- finance experiences as a chemistry student would allow me to thrive.

About me: I was born in Italy but grew up in London and I studied Chemistry at the University of Oxford. Over the course of my first three years, my studies highlighted the importance of detail and the nuance it provides. My scientific background taught me to break down complex problems into their constituent parts and to appreciate the interplay that quantitative and qualitative outlooks can have. This was built upon in my fourth year where I focused my postgraduate research on the application of machine learning to inorganic chemistry, particularly the application of novel methods.

I developed an interest in pursuing a career in financial services and I did internships at a couple of M&A boutiques before doing a summer at Bank of America. Most recently, I was in Canada for a summer at a boutique private equity firm and that really built upon my previous experiences.

What drew me to LBS was the emphasis on excellence and its focus on community. My time here has been energising and motivating, particularly for someone like me who has come from a non-orthodox academic path.

Three topics I can be approached about: Work advice; university; applying with a STEM background.
