Applying theory to the real world

“LBS gives you the opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a safe environment. You work in diverse teams and take time out from your career so you can reflect on the feedback you receive and put what you learn into practice."

“At Boston Consulting Group (BCG) I had worked on a number of projects in several industry practice areas, including energy, media, private equity and public sector. An MBA was the natural next step for me to make the transition from team member to team leader."

“I particularly enjoyed LBS’s study group format, where students work on a range of programme-related projects with the same classmates for a year. Everyone has the opportunity to lead a particular project. Because you’re working with the same people, you develop real trust and everyone feels comfortable about giving feedback on each other’s
leadership style."

“Exploring organisational behaviour - seeing how and why people make decisions and the factors that influence their response to instruction or direction - was another real highlight."

"Learning about psychology and how people work was really enlightening. It allowed me to reflect on work-related experiences I’d had before taking the MBA and get a better understanding of what prompted certain reactions. For me, the programme was an opportunity to connect classroom theory to the workplace.”

Grasping seminal moments

“I love travelling, so being in London was incredible for me because you can jump on a flight and spend a long weekend in Europe. I grew up in New Zealand. From there, it takes eight hours to fly anywhere and you don’t get much chance to visit other places."

“During my time at LBS, I ran two marathons and visited 20 countries in Europe, Asia and North America. I joined the Foodie Club and became the club’s deputy president and treasurer - we wined and dined at some of the best restaurants in London and Lyon."

“It’s amazing how quickly you make friends at LBS. The student body is 90% international and everyone’s moved to London for the same reason, so we are all going through the same experience."

“It was a great opportunity to live and work in another country with a diverse student body, exposing me to different learning and working styles. The School offers so many opportunities to connect and socialise with new people."

“TEDxLondonBusinessSchool is an annual TED event organised by the students of London Business School. I worked on the leadership committee. I also completed an internship at travel booking website Expedia.”
