After 20 years of service and two spaceflights, Tim Kopra EMBAG2013 retired from NASA in 2018. Whilst with NASA Tim spent more than six months, from December 2015 to June 2016, as a flight engineer on the International Space Station. He and the five other astronauts on Expedition 46 carried out several hundred experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth science.
He was assigned to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, in September 1998 as a vehicle integration test engineer. Kopra was then selected as an astronaut in July 2000 and started his training two months later. After completing two years of intensive space shuttle and T-38 flight training, Kopra served in the Space Station Branch of the Astronaut Office.
Kopra’s first long-duration space flight mission was as a flight engineer on Expedition 20 in 2009, where he spent two months in space and completed one spacewalk.
On Friday 15 January, Colonel Tim Kopra, an Executive MBA graduate from London Business School (EMBA-Global 2013), left the International Space Station (ISS) to walk in space on a mission to repair a broken power unit.
LT6 was packed with students, staff, faculty and alumni last night (Tuesday 24 May) for an out-of-this-world event with London Business School alumnus Colonel Tim Kopra EMBAG2013.
