Maria Kiwanuka MSc14(1981)

Senior Advisor to the President of Uganda

As senior advisor to Uganda’s president, Maria Kiwanuka MSc14(1981) is responsible for working with the Bretton Woods Institutions. She worked at the World Bank for more 10 years as an economist and financial analyst, responsible for East Asian and Southern African regions, covering projects in Burma, Malawi, Swaziland and Uganda.

 

Kiwanuka returned to Uganda to join the private sector, working in the broadcasting, publishing, real estate and economic consulting industries. She previously served as managing director of Radio One and Radio Two, Uganda.

 

In 2011, Kiwanuka was appointed minister of finance, responsible for planning and economic development. She is a former member of the Presidential Economic Commission and Presidential Investors Roundtable.

 

Kiwanuka has held non-executive director roles at the Agha Khan Foundation (East Africa), The Nabagereka Development Trust, Nkumba University, Uganda Development Bank and Stanbic Bank Uganda.
