Hybrid work and productivity – two tests weighing on leaders

London Business School Professor Lynda Gratton is shining a light on two major challenges facing today’s business leaders: hybrid work and productivity.

Professor Gratton’s article entitled Seven Truths About Hybrid Work and Productivity featured in MIT Sloan Management Review’s list of the publication’s most-read articles in 2024. In it, Professor Gratton offers expert advice on why leaders should prepare for trade-offs, make expectations clear, and think harder about how productivity is measured in order to get the most from hybrid work.

This is a subject that Professor Gratton knows particularly well, having written a book during the Coronavirus pandemic about Redesigning Work – How to Transform Your Organization & Make Hybrid Work for Everyone.

Her work also focuses on the thorny issue of productivity, some findings of which she shares in a recent article for The Times. In the article, she considers why technology isn’t the solution to Britain’s productivity issues and reveals that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to increasing productivity.

Productivity is complex because “each organisation is unique with its own history, culture, capabilities and business goals. It is not going to be a one-size-fits-all journey. And following the lead of others might not boost productivity in your business,” advises Professor Gratton.
