Paola Pavón Méndez (she/her)

Previous degree: Bachelors in Actuarial Science, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Mexico

Finance sector pre-MiF: Credit Risk, Risk Management

Previous or current role: Rating Analyst, S&P Global Ratings

Clubs: LatAm, Women in Business, Music, WSC

About me: Prior to LBS, I worked at S&P Global Ratings as a Financial Institutions Rating Analyst. This role involved performing deep quantitative and qualitative analysis of Mexico’s and Central America’s largest financial companies (banks and NBFIs) and then communicating such analysis to the market. My objective was to create transparency between financial companies, shareholders and investors.

Before working at S&P, I was a Risk Analyst at Mexico’s central bank, Banxico. I was part of the sovereign oil fund, where my role was focused towards measuring and managing financial risks.

I decided to study a Masters in Finance to strengthen my knowledge in the field, since my undergraduate studies were more focused towards insurance. Moreover, I wanted to gain a broader picture of all the opportunities inside the financial industry.

I chose LBS for two reasons: the fact that its programme is specifically built for people with professional experience and that it offers a multicultural environment.

In my free time I like to do yoga, play guitar and go to as many concerts and live music events as I can.

Three topics I can be approached about: Mathematics; feminism; music.
