Full-time staff receive 27 days of annual leave plus 3 to 4 extra working days off at Christmas. You can also purchase additional days through a salary sacrifice arrangement. If you are with us for 5 years you will be awarded 1 additional day of holiday, and an additional 2 days after 10 years.
We are committed to supporting your work-life balance. We operate “Smart working” which means working at the most appropriate times and location for you to fulfil your role, be that campus-based, remote working or a mixture of the two.
We encourage teams to have “anchor days” where all team members spend time in the office for team collaboration and connection.
Colleagues can also request to make formal changes to their working pattern and work location.
Sometimes you may like more time off to travel or pursue outside interests. At LBS, after passing probation you can request a career break of up to one year and, if approved, we will hold your position until you return.
We have close ties with the NGO and not-for-profit sectors and are fully committed to helping communities and peoples in need. We offer up to 5 extra paid days off each year for our staff to get involved in volunteering or community service.

We understand that supporting employees to balance parental and caring responsibilities with work is critical to their wellbeing and success in their role and we offer enhanced benefits that are above statutory limits in many cases to endorse our commitment to this. We offer enhanced maternity pay and two weeks full paternity pay. Most mothers/adopters are entitled to 18 weeks of full pay followed by 21 weeks of statutory pay.

Staff are automatically enrolled into a quality workplace pension scheme, depending on your role. – Faculty roles and Staff roles at Levels 3 to 6 – Universities Superannuation Scheme– Staff roles at Levels 1 & 2 and staff on casual contracts – Group Personal Pension Scheme provided by Scottish Widows.
The Employee Assistance Programme gives you access to a team of financial specialists who offer completely impartial information. An independent financial adviser also regularly visits the School to offer guidance to staff.
The School provides assistance to its employees to travel to work through both a Season Ticket Loan arrangement and a Cycle to Work scheme.
The combined limit of both loans is 1/6th of your salary or £10,000.
Season Ticket Loan
The School can provide you with a lump sum payment to cover the cost of a season ticket up to the lower of £10,000 or 1/6th of annual basic salary.
Cycle to Work
Through our partnership with Cycle Scheme you can hire bikes and cycling equipment through a salary sacrifice arrangement, to travel to and from work over a 12 month period. After 12 months you can take full ownership of your bike and cycling accessories by paying a fee to Cyclescheme. The maximum loan limit is £5,000 or 1/6th of annual basic salary, if lower.
The School provides a death-in-service lump sum payment. For staff at Levels 1 & 2 this is a multiple of x4 your basic annual salary. For staff at Levels 3 to 6, and faculty, who are not members of the USS pension scheme, this is x3 your basic annual salary. If you are a member of USS you are covered by their separate provisions for a lump sum payment of x3 basic annual salary, governed by their scheme rules.
Staff can access a range of retail discounts and savings through our Advantage Programme.
Through your employment at the School you are eligible to purchase a TOTUM® card for access to exclusive offers and discounts from many retailers.
Staff are awarded with cash gifts and a personalised letter from the Dean after every five years of service.
Subject to eligibility, staff will be rewarded with £250 for every successful staff referral.
Enjoy free access to our on-site Nuffield Health gym and swimming pool. Personal training sessions can be booked online in addition to a range of discounted treatments, therapies and exercise classes.
Top up memberships to other Nuffield gyms are also available at a reduced price.
Our partnership with Edenred entitles our staff to a free eye examination. If prescribed spectacles for VDU/DSE use, we will issue you with another voucher for £55.
We offer a counselling service where staff can speak confidentially with a counsellor either in person or over the phone. This discreet service is our way of supporting our employee’s mental and emotional wellbeing.
To further support our colleagues’ wellbeing we offer support thorough Mental Health First Aiders, mental health coaching and mentors.
