Dr Luisa Alemany receives TAA award

The Textbook and Academic Authors Association (TAA) has awarded London Business School’s Dr. Luisa Alemany a ‘Most Promising New Textbook’ award for her textbook, Entrepreneurial Finance: The Art and Science of Growing Ventures.
The textbook, which Dr. Alemany co-authored with PhD candidate Entrepreneurial Finance, Job J. Andreoli of Nyenrode Business Universiteit, draws together perspectives from academics and practitioners from a range of institutions across Europe to provide a cutting-edge, practical, and comprehensive review on the financing of entrepreneurial ventures. From sourcing and obtaining funds, to financial tools for growing and managing the financial challenges and opportunities of the start-up, Entrepreneurial Finance: The Art and Science of Growing Ventures is an engaging text that equips entrepreneurs, students and early-stage investors to make sound financial decisions at every stage of a business' life. Largely reflecting European businesses and with a European perspective, the text is grounded in sound theoretical foundations. Case studies and success stories, as well as perspectives from the media and from experts, provide real-world applications, while a wealth of activities give students abundant opportunities to apply what they have learned. A must-have text for both graduate and undergraduate students in entrepreneurship, finance and management programs, as well as aspiring entrepreneurs in any field.
The TAA, which provides professional development resources, events, and networking opportunities for textbook authors and authors of scholarly journal articles and books, commented: "Entrepreneurial Finance: The Art and Science of Growing Ventures by Luisa Alemany and Job J. Andreoli is an exemplary work because it strikes a successful balance between practice and theory; by providing a practical blueprint for entrepreneurial ventures, this unique Europe-centered textbook will be useful to students and any individual interested in potentially seeding and financing a new business."

Job Andreoli is senior lecturer finance and PhD candidate entrepreneurial finance and leads the Nyenrode Incubator in Amsterdam. Job enjoys linking theory to practice, bringing the outside world in and stimulating discussion in his classes. In addition, he appreciates the engagement of entrepreneurs and supports their market success where possible. His research focusses on how market discipline may be leveraged to enhance private Venture Capital performance.
Dr. Alemany said she was “honoured and delighted” to receive the award with her co-author, Job Andreoli: “I am so grateful for this award. The idea of the book started while I was in an academic conference conducting a session for other European faculty about teaching Entrepreneurial Finance. One of the participants, my co-author Job Andreoli, asked me: Can you recommend a book, which book do you use in your classes? My answer was: well, there is no book that I can use as the books which are available in the market only focus on US and Silicon Valley. He replied: Shall we write a book?. And that’s how all started! We have benefitted on the support of amazing contributors, and this is also a recognition to all the faculty in European institutions and around the world who have adopted the book and the students that are learning with it. I am also very excited to announce that the Chinese edition is on the making as we speak and that the textbook will be distributed in Chinese by the end of 2021!”
Twenty-five textbooks have been awarded 2020 Textbook Awards by the TAA. Six textbooks received William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Awards, nine textbooks received Textbook Excellence Awards, and ten textbooks received Most Promising New Textbook Awards.
