Rebooting an already successful career

“I was less than typical when I joined the full-time Masters in Finance (MiF) as I’d had experience as an analyst at a fledgling hedge fund start-up. The start-up specialised in trading short-term derivative strategies, which confirmed to me that I was in the right industry, but there were gaps in my technical knowledge. So when the hedge fund started to close down, business school seemed like a good option and offered me the chance to plug those gaps."

“I was the first of my family to complete university – an MA in Economics from the University of Cambridge – and I secured a pre-MBA internship with Credit Suisse before joining LBS. I chose to study finance at business school because I planned to move to a bigger organisation and I wanted to expand my opportunities through the School’s network.”

One year to go big

“Fantastic recruiters come to the School because of its reputation and connections. That’s an incredible resource.”

Relevant to the real-world

“The MiF at LBS is unique. You won’t find anything like it anywhere else in the world. It’s a one-year course that provides many of the opportunities of a two-year MBA, without sacrificing finance exposure."

“I gave myself one immersive year to build up my finance knowledge and chose to do so in London, home to 75 per cent of the top 500 global companies. LBS’s international brand played a part in my decision-making. Fantastic recruiters come to the School because of its reputation and connections. That’s an incredible resource. In my first few months at LBS, I was offered a full-time associate position with AQR Capital."

“I was awarded a 50th Anniversary Scholarship when I applied to join the MiF. The financial freedom allowed me to take valuable electives: instead of working during half terms and holiday periods, for example, I took Topics in Asset Management, an elective relevant to my future plans."

“It was a great feeling to know that I was a full scholar at the School; it did a lot for my confidence, especially as part of an ambitious, high-calibre cohort. Being confident around your classmates helps you get the most out of the experience.”
