James Dow

Professor of Finance

MA (Cambridge) PhD (Princeton)

James Dow is Professor of Finance at London Business School. His primary research interests centre on the effect of limited arbitrage capital on stock price dynamics, financial fire sales, and bubbles. He has also worked on executive compensation and the role of financial markets in corporate resource allocation decisions. His research has been published in leading academic journals including Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic StudiesEconometrica, Journal of Finance, and Review of Financial Studies.

Alongside his academic work, James has extensive consulting experience, providing advice on valuation, the cost of capital, and corporate governance, as well as expert testimony.

James has been Professor of Finance at London Business School since 1999, during which time he has served as Research Dean, Chair of the Finance Subject Area, Director of the Institute of Finance and Accounting, and held the David Pyott Term Chair. He has also served as editor of Review of Economic Studies. Prior to joining LBS, he was Professor of Economics and Head of the Economics Department at the European University Institute in Florence and earlier held a position as Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
