Abstract

Tim Waterstone, founder, Chief Executive and 21% option/shareholder of Waterstone & Co. , puzzled over his business's future. Founded in 1982, Waterstone's had grown into one of Britain's leading book retailers. However, the company's 1989 cash flow forecast showed a peak cash funding requirement of £13-15 million. Tim was confident that the money could be raised on some terms. He had also just received an approach from another retailer interested in acquiring Waterstone's outright. Tim reflected upon the options. What were they and which should he pursue.
