Abstract

This paper examines how organizations form new network ties. Past research has emphasized the importance of prior network ties and affiliation-based status. In contrast, I explore the extent to which organizations may "purchase" their network embeddedness using the more immediate levers of favorable deal terms and fast evaluation speeds.
