Subject

Finance, Strategy and Entrepreneurship

Publication Year

2003

Abstract

This case is written as part of a two-case series. It may be used in a course or short programme on (marketing) strategy/micro-economics/organisational behaviour/supply chain strategy. Because the case contains substantial amount of industry structure information, it can be used as an industry analysis case. The distribution crisis illustrated in the case can also be used for courses in supply chain strategy. The various negotiations between the Pazgas and its retailers can be adapted for practice material for multiple-parties negotiations and renegotiations of existing contracts. Teaching Purpose and Objectives: The first part of the Pazgas case has 2 major teaching purposes. The first is to develop students’ skills in industry analysis, particularly in identifying industry forces and their implications for industry structure. The second is to use this as an exercise in identifying critical success factors for a business and evaluating strategic options. Teaching Note: - Appreciating the importance of knowing the critical success factors in ones industry; - Understanding the importance of having a long-term vision and strategy.
