Greek Management: Diagnosis and Prognosis
Publication Year
1996
Abstract
The paper provides a "diagnosis and prognosis" of Greek management in terms of organizational culture, leadership and decision-making style. Currently, Greek management is seen as different from management in other European countries, with power more centralized and decision making less rational. We predict though that these differences are likely to diminish in the future. Following a convergence hypothesis, we argue that recent changes in the socio-cultural context of Greece (EU membership and increased internationalization) as well as a widespread urge to modernize and professionalize, will move Greek management (via imitation and adaptation processes) towards a convergence to "Western-type practices".
