The case describes the situation, in 1995 of a medium sized Swiss construction company considering a joint venture opportunity in the Eastern part of Germany. The CEO believes that with such a joint venture, he can overcome the problems of high Swiss labour costs, an appreciating Swiss franc and create a base for international expansion. Is he correct in his diagnosis of what ails Felix construction? Should he go for the joint venture? This case explores the issue of internationalisation of small and medium sized enterprise and at the stage of the very first step abroad.
