Abstract

Research at CNEM is organised in two linked programmes. These are: 1. Determinants of Firm Performance and Entrepreneurship 2. Technical Change & Innovation The first programme's focus is squarely at the level of the firm and encompasses questions relating to comparative performance, market selection and entrepreneurship. It consists of four individual research projects: Acquisition strategies in emerging markets, International entrepreneurship project, Private sector development in emerging markets, International activities and performance of entrepreneurial firms in China. The second programme looks at the implications for emerging markets of technical change, both at the level of the firm, as also through greater factor mobility, notably the migration of skilled workers from emerging markets. It consists of four individual research projects: Brain drain and development, Origins and dynamics of the software industry in emerging markets, Strategic adaptation to a changing environment: the Chinese pharmaceutical industry, Multinational and the recruitment of skilled personnel.
