Information for Recruiters - FAQ

2011 immigration reforms - how do they impact your organisation?

As many of you will be aware, a summary of the UK immigration reforms was announced on 22 March by Home Secretary, Theresa May. London Business School has been involved in the consultation to ensure that both the value of our students is recognised and that our UK recruiters can continue to easily recruit top non-EEA/non-Swiss students from around the world.  We are very pleased that the UK Border Authority has taken into account many of the points we raised.

Below is a summary of the changes and what they mean to you as a London Business School Recruiter.

Summary of changes

As expected there are changes to the post-study work rules, however, contrary to much of the speculation Post-Study Work (PSW) is being reformed not closed.

  • Tier 1 PSW remains open for new applications until April 2012
  • The Home Secretary announced that post-study work will then be restricted to graduate jobs paying more than £20,000 p.a and moved to Tier 2
  • No limit on numbers of non-EEA/non-Swiss students moving from Tier 4 to Tier 2 though they have reserved the right to review this if abuse becomes apparent
  • Non-EEA/non-Swiss students will not be required to leave the country to apply for Tier 2 visas.

What do the reforms mean to you as a London Business School recruiter?

  • When recruiting from London Business school, you are recruiting from within the UK so our non-EEA/non-Swiss students will not be included in your Tier 2 sponsorship cap, enabling you to recruit intenational talent without them counting towards your out-of-country Tier 2 allocation.
  • Any of our current non-EEA/non-Swiss students that were expecting to stay in the UK, will be able to stay, provided they obtain graduate-level jobs. So if you have London Business School non-EEA/non-Swiss students holding offers or that have already accepted, their right to work in the UK is unaffected by the announcements
  • The right for London Business School non-EEA/non-Swiss students to work during term time, undertake projects, work placements and internships is unaffected by the announcements.

New measures will be implemented in three stages. We will communicate new rules when they are announced.
