My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Heavy editing and re-editing my application essays. I wanted to make sure I was clearly articulating the reasons I wanted to attend London Business School through compelling essays.

About me: Although I was born and raised in Houston, foreign language was a huge part of my undergraduate studies, which included Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese. I completed marketing-related summer internships at a Japanese manufacturing company, a Brazilian fashion house in Sao Paulo, and in global marketing at L'Oreal. I also have some full-time experience in digital strategy for a large retailer in the US. Coming to London Business School was therefore a perfect way to start an international career. I'm an avid foreign film and music buff and can often be seen on the London Tube rocking out with a pair of giant headphones.

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Deciding which programme best suited my needs. This applied to location, academic curriculum, career opportunities and how I would fit into the community within the school. Once I knew I wanted to study at London Business School, I had to spend a lot of time making sure that every aspect of my application was as strong as it possibly could be. Preparation for the GMAT is certainly very important, and should not be taken lightly.

About me: Although I am British, I have spent a great deal of my life outside of the UK. Having been born in Japan I was then lucky enough to experience living in Germany, Bolivia, Luxembourg, Japan (again!), and will soon have the chance to spend some time in Azerbaijan. As a result of this international upbringing, and the fact that my mother is from Chile, I developed an interest in foreign languages and cultures from a young age. After studying German and Business Studies at undergraduate level, I decided to attend London Business School to consolidate my academic experience with a course focused more on practical application, which would help me to move into a professional role more easily. I am also a very keen footballer, having played competitively for as long as I can remember, and now play for the School' Football club.

Luis Filipe

Nationality: Portuguese

Studied: Business at Nova Lisbon School of Business and Economics, Portugal

Interested in: Management consulting

Email: lfilipe.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Simultaneously researching and deciding which masters programme had the best fit with me and with my future goals and ambitions; managing my time to write the essays and take the required tests while studying; being a member of the counselling board of a non-profit association; and working part-time.

About me: I was born in Portugal but lived in Belgium for five years. Later, while at university, I did a five month exchange programme in the Netherlands. I love sports and I played competitive football, handball and indoor football for first division teams. At university, I co-founded an association which aims to develop students' soft skills. I have also completed five internships - the last one before coming to London Business School was at The Boston Consulting Group, in their Lisbon office. I would say I am extroverted, friendly and talkative, and more than happy to share my London Business School experiences.

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Figuring out where I wanted to be and which programme would suit my future plans best.

About Me: Born and raised in Ukraine, I attended an international school in Kiev. The spirit of London Business School was the initial motivation behind my decision to come to the UK to do my bachelor and masters degrees. Previously, I have worked in finance and led volunteering projects and student organisations. I'm looking forward to a career in investment banking post-graduation. I am interested in equestrian sports (have been riding for over ten), football, game theory and finance. I speak Russian and Ukrainian and look forward to answering any of the questions you may have.

Viktor Matyas

Nationality: Austrian / Hungarian

Studied: International Business Administration at Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria

Interested in: Management consulting and private equity

Email: vmatyas.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Gathering information on various graduate programmes (beyond the usual marketing texts on websites) in order to find the ideal course for me. Once I had identified the Masters in Management, preparing for the GMAT while working in management consulting proved challenging.

About me: Born in Vienna but raised bilingual, you can also contact me in German and Hungarian for insights into the Masters in Management. I studied international business administration in Vienna and Manchester and completed several IT-related assignments in start-ups and SMEs before working in Arthur D. Little's telecoms practice for a year prior to the commencement of my masters. In my free time, I volunteer for the Red Cross in Austria as an ambulance man / driver and enjoy sports (especially cycling and running) as well as travelling. I consider myself open minded and I love meeting new and interesting people so feel free to drop me a line.

Nationality: German

Studied: Business Administration at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland

Interested in: Consulting

Email: hmueller.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Getting my applications done and preparing for the GMAT while working as an intern. Focusing on the programmes I was really interested in helped me to manage my time efficiently and to fully dedicate myself to the applications.

About me: I was born in Germany and spent most of my childhood and youth there. During high school, I lived half a year each in the US and France. I studied in Switzerland and did an exchange semester at the Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. I like learning new languages and getting to know different cultures. The Masters in Management allows me to meet and work with people from all over the world and to benefit from their diverse backgrounds. Studying at London Business School is really an international experience. I love classical music and art - at the age of five I started playing the violin and ever since I have participated in many concerts and competitions. After graduating from university, I took an art history class at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London. In my distant future, I could imagine working in the art business in order to combine my business knowledge with my passion for art. At London Business School I am a member of the Art club, which hosts the yearly Art Investment Conference. This offers me the chance to follow my many interests, highly leveraging my study experience.

Chido Munangogwa

Nationality: Zimbabwean

Studied: Economics and French at Gettysburg College, USA

Interested in: Finance

Email: cmunangagwa.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Preparing for the GMAT and presenting myself as I am in my essays, not as I thought LBS would want meto appear.

About me: I was born and raised in Zimbabwe where I completed my high school education at an all-girls boarding school. I took a gap year to figure out my next steps during which I developed a strong interest in the US - that's where I subsequently pursued my undergraduate education. I am really interested in finance and completed two internships in the field. I absolutely love travelling and learning about different cultures and I hope to visit as many places as possible in my lifetime. I was really drawn to London Business School for its diverse student body and its practical approach to business education. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Interested in: Management Consulting and industry

Email: eolbersmim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Taking the GMAT while being in the final year of my undergraduate studies and choosing the school that would offer me a very practical approach to business education, a close alumni network, and the highest diversity.

About me: I grew up in Luxembourg and studied in the UK and Spain at undergraduate level. I enjoy learning foreign languages and am fascinated by emerging markets, which has encouraged me to study and work in China as well as volunteering as a teacher in India. Prior to London Business School, I worked in strategy consulting and banking. My short term future plans include making the most of the Masters in Management experience and backpacking through Latin America. I am looking forward to answering any of your questions about the programme or the London Business School experience in general.

Elisabeth Philipse

Nationality: Dutch
Studied: Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Oxford, UK

Interested in: Consulting

Email: ephilipse.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Finding a graduate programme that was exactly what I wanted. I researched a lot of programmes and most were not quite what I was looking for. When you are spending this kind of money, you want to know that the programme you choose in the end is going to be the best for you. I did a lot of research, talked to current students and alumni and consulted my family before deciding to do the Masters in Management at London Business School.

About me: I grew up in Amsterdam, where I applied from my secondary school to do PPE in Oxford. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I wanted to increase my business knowledge and skills by doing the Masters in Management at the London Business School, with the aim of going into consulting. I have always enjoyed being involved in student life. In Oxford, I rowed for the first women's team of my college and was in the student committee as treasurer. Here at the London Business School, I decided to take up a new sport by joining the Women's Touch Rugby club.

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Developing a long term perspective to enable me to choose between working and pursuing a Masters in Management.

About me: I love change - and creation as a cause of change. I've travelled extensively across Asia, Europe and North America. I like to write, make films and all other forms of independent creative expression. I also enjoy talking with people from diverse backgrounds and trying to understand what matters the most to them. My days at London Business School so far have been enlightening and I'm thrilled by the endless opportunities to learn from the School Community.

Ian Scime

Nationality: American

Studied: Marketing and International Business at Michigan State University, USA

Interested in: Strategy Consulting and finance

Email: iscime.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Time management during the application process. I needed to balance taking the GMAT, writing application essays, and polishing all necessary forms while making sure I did not fall behind on my university studies.

About me: I was born and raised in the United States but was very fortunate to begin travelling internationally at a very early age. Like most of the students you will meet at London Business School, I love experiencing new cultures and look forward to all of the trips I will be taking this year. I am a member of a few clubs on campus including the Rugby club, the Poker club, and the Consulting club so if you share any of those interests, let me know. If you have any questions regarding the application process, the programme, London itself or anything you may not find in the brochure, just shoot me a message and I will be sure to respond as soon as I have time.

Aria Shafa

Nationality: French

Studied: Economics at University College London, UK

Interested in: Marketing (Entertainment, FMCG, TMT)

Email: ashafa.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Ensuring my application did justice to my enthusiasm for the programme, juggling final-year academic commitments with research into business schools, and taking the GMAT.

About me: Born and raised in Paris but Persian by origin, I moved to London for my undergraduate degree after attending a bilingual school. I am extremely interested in consumer behaviour and a career in marketing, particularly in the entertainment industry. While this may seem at odds with the paths preferred by Masters in Management students, my experience at London Business School so far has showed me that the training offered and skills acquired are universal, and exposure to leaders spanning all industries (not just consulting and finance) is unparalleled. My multicultural background has made me particularly appreciative of the programme's diversity and I am always happy to share some of the many anecdotes I've accumulated this year.

YabingWu

Nationality: Chinese

Studied: Public Economics at Fudan University, China

Interested in: Investment banking and private equity

Email: ywu.mim2012@london.edu

My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: To stand out amongst hundreds of applicants and get a scholarship, and to decide which school fitted my needs the best. I consulted alumni and current students from many different schools and the Masters in Management at London Business School offered a very balanced and practical approach to management education, career development, and had a very eclectic and inclusive environment. I also got a lot of support and information about scholarship opportunities from the programme office and won a great scholarship.

About me: After doing my undergraduate studies in Shanghai, going on exchange twice to the US (one summer at Yale, two weeks at ASU, North Carolina), and now studying the Masters in Management in London, I've gained a global awareness and enjoyed the dynamics of a changing environment. I did internships at BCG, HSBC and a mid-market private equity firm in Shanghai prior to joining the programme. Those internships broadened my horizon to the business world and inspired me to work in the fast-paced, challenging, and interesting world of finance. I love travelling, photography, and making friends from different cultural backgrounds and treating them with homemade Chinese dinners. I'm also keen to explore new things so I'm actively involved in social activities organised by the Student Association and the clubs. I found a great way of both playing sports and meeting people: the Women's Touch Rugby club. I enjoy playing rugby with wonderful ladies from the MBA and Masters in Finance programmes every week.
