FAQs

Admissions and eligibility

What degree do you require and how do I know if I meet the academic requirement?

We accept undergraduate degrees in any subject area, with a grade equivalent to a UK First or 2:1 / GPA 3.5 and above. If your university does not use either of these grading systems or you have any concerns as to whether you meet the academic requirement, please email us. Please note that all students on this programme will need to have completed their undergraduate degree prior to the course beginning in September.

Who is suitable for the Masters in Management?

The Masters in Management is aimed at recent graduates who have less than one year of full-time postgraduate corporate work experience or less than two years experience in a non-traditional business role, and the motivation and desire to build a strong foundation for a career in business. Students will come from diverse academic and professional backgrounds and we will consider candidates who have broad work experience in non-traditional business roles such as engineering, science and arts.

I would like to do a PhD. Is this Masters right for me?

If you are seeking to pursue a PhD and wish to complete a Masters in Management as the next stage in your education, then this is probably not the right programme for you. As this course aims to give students highly relevant and practical skills for the workplace, it is not appropriate for students who wish to engage in further study immediately after graduation. If you have concerns about your suitability for the course then you should contact the Masters in Management Admissions Team and we can discuss your individual situation in more depth.

Do students need to be able to speak English?

Yes. All students on the programme need to be fluent in English. If their first language is not English, they will need to prove their fluency unless:

  • Their undergraduate degree (minimum two years) was conducted exclusively in English
  • They have lived in an English-speaking country for at least two years.
Can I pursue the MBA after completing the Masters in Management?

Students who graduate from the Masters in Management will be able to apply for the MBA so long as they meet the entry requirements. However, they will need to apply for the programme as non-alumni do, and will not be exempt from any coursework that they may have covered on this programme.

Do you accept the GRE?

If you have already taken the GRE, please contact our Admissions Team with your test information so we can discuss your individual situation in more detail. Otherwise, if you have not yet taken either the GRE or GMAT you should plan to take the GMAT. Please note we accept both the GMAT and GRE, although will consider applications submitted without a score on a case by case basis and only from candidates with exceptional academic performance. We would, however, advise the Admission Committee places a strong preference on these tests as they will strengthen your application and would recommend that you contact the Admissions Team to further discuss your eligibility.

I already have an MBA or other postgraduate degree in business. Can I apply for this programme?

If you have already pursued an MBA or other postgraduate degree in business, such as a MiM from another business school, you should not apply for this programme as it will be a repeat of what you have already studied.

Programme details

What is the difference between the Masters in Management, Masters in Finance and MBA programmes?

The Masters in Management is a one year programme for recent graduates who are looking to embark on a management-oriented career, but who have limited business knowledge and less than two years of full time, relevant work experience. This programme has been designed following extensive consultation with top graduate recruiters, and provides students with the skills and knowledge to perform in all areas of management across a number of core courses in both academic study and professional development.

The Masters in Finance gives students a thorough and focused training in finance and is aimed at those individuals who have already been working in the finance sector for a minimum of two years and an average of five years, and who wish to advance their careers. Masters in Finance students may take this course in order to deepen their existing financial knowledge or to move into a different role in the finance area. Students have the option to take this course on a full or part-time basis at 10-16 or 22 months, respectively.

The MBA programme is aimed at more experienced individuals who are looking to take their career to the next level. This programme accepts applications from students with between two and twelve years of work experience, and the average work experience level on this programme is five years. The MBA is a 15 -21 month course which offers students the chance to specialise in their chosen areas in the second year of the course.

What kind of career does the Masters in Management prepare students for?

Students are typically recruited for pre-experience roles and graduate schemes in industry, banks, consultancies and other large organisations. For more information, view the MiM2011 Employment Report.

Can I take the course part-time or via distance learning?

The Masters in Management programme runs full-time for one year, and classes typically run from 08.45-17.00, Monday to Friday. All classes are core, therefore students are required to attend all classes and engage in class discussion. As such, participating in the course via distance learning or on a part-time basis is not possible. Students are based at the Masters in Management student centre, located on our London Business School campus near Regent's Park, and must be in London to attend classes.

Application process

What happens if my application is not successful?

If your application is not successful, please review the admissions criteria against your application and ensure that your experience and objectives are aligned with the admissions criteria. Remember that competition for places is high, and consequently we are not able to offer places to a number of entirely suitable candidates.

Can I reapply?

You can reapply so long as you still meet the entry requirements, although you are only able to apply for each programme once per academic year. Please note that we specifically invite those candidates we would like to see reapply to do so, and we recommend reapplying only if you can highlight new aspects of personal and professional growth.

Funding

Do you offer any financial aid?

London Business School has a limited number of scholarships available for Masters in Management students, including the Annual Funds scholarship. For additional information on financing, please click here.

How much does the Masters in Management cost?

The total entry fees for the programme starting September 2012 are £24,720. The fees include the full one year of tuition and course materials (excluding textbooks).

Visas

Will international students need a visa?

The Masters in Management is a full time MSc.  Students who are not from the European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss nationals will require a visa to study in the United Kingdom.  For information about applying for a UK student visa, see the UK Border Agency website.  London Business School will issue the relevant document to applicants who have accepted their place on the programme.  We encourage you to make sure you read the UK visa entry guidelines and have the most up to date information so your visa application goes smoothly and in good time for the start date.
