FAQs

Can I pursue the MBA after completing the Masters in Management?

Students who graduate from the Masters in Management will be able to apply for the MBA so long as they meet the entry requirements. However, they will need to apply for the programme as non-alumni do, and will not be exempt from any coursework that they may have covered on this programme.

What degree do you require and how do I know if I meet the academic requirement?

We accept undergraduate degrees in any subject area, with a grade equivalent to a UK First or 2:1 / GPA 3.5 and above. If your university does not use either of these grading systems or you have any concerns as to whether you meet the academic requirement, please email us. Please note that all students on this programme will need to have completed their undergraduate degree prior to the course beginning in September.

Will you accept the GRE in place of the GMAT?

Currently we do not accept GREs in place of the GMAT, which is a mandatory requirement for all applicants. The GMAT tests a specific skill set and is an important tool which we use to measure an applicant's aptitude for graduate management study and allows us to distinguish between candidates using the same tool. You must have taken the GMAT prior to submitting your application, and we will not accept applications without this score. Please note that we will temporarily accept the "test taker" copy of your score (which you will receive immediately once you have completed the test) if your official report is not available.

What is the difference between the Masters in Management, Masters in Finance and MBA programmes?

The Masters in Management is a one year programme for recent graduates who are looking to embark on a management-oriented career, but who have limited business knowledge and less than one year of full time, relevant work experience. This programme has been designed following extensive consultation with top graduate recruiters, and provides students with the skills and knowledge to perform in all areas of management across a number of core courses in both academic study and professional development.

The Masters in Finance gives students a thorough and focused training in finance and is aimed at those individuals who have already been working in the finance sector for a minimum of two years and an average of five years, and who wish to advance their careers. Masters in Finance students may take this course in order to deepen their existing financial knowledge or to move into a different role in the finance area. Students have the option to take this course on a full or part-time basis at 10 or 22 months, respectively.

The MBA programme is aimed at more experienced individuals who are looking to take their career to the next level. This programme accepts applications from students with between two and twelve years of work experience, and the average work experience level on this programme is five years. The MBA is a 15 -21 month course which offers students the chance to specialise in their chosen areas in the second year of the course.

Will international students need a visa?

The Masters in Management is a full time MSc.  Students who are not from the European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss nationals will require a visa to study in the United Kingdom.  For information about applying for a UK student visa, see the UK Border Agency website.  London Business School will issue the relevant document to applicants who have accepted their place on the programme.  We encourage you to make sure you read the UK visa entry guidelines and have the most up to date information so your visa application goes smoothly and in good time for the September 2012 start date.

Who is suitable for the Masters in Management?

The Masters in Management is for recent graduates with less than one year of relevant, full-time post-graduate work experience.

Students will have an undergraduate degree from any study discipline. Students ideally will have excelled in a non-academic area such as sports or the arts, or shown their leadership potential in community activities.

Students on the programme are dynamic, motivated, and keen to build a strong foundation for a career in business.

I already have an MBA. Can I apply for this programme?

If you have already pursued an MBA you should not apply for the Masters in Management. This programme is aimed at recent graduates with less than one year of full-time postgraduate work experience and who have the motivation and desire to build a strong foundation for a career in business.

What kind of career does the Masters in Management prepare students for?

Students are typically recruited for pre-experience roles and graduate schemes in industry, banks, consultancies and other large organisations. To view the MiM2011 Employment Report, please click here.

Do students need work experience, or can they join the programme straight from university?

The Masters in Management is different from other London Business School programmes; it is aimed at recent graduates with less than one year of full-time postgraduate work experience and who have the motivation and desire to build a strong foundation for a career in business. If you have more than one year of work experience you may wish to look at another of our degrees. If you are unsure whether you meet the work experience requirement or wish you know if you are eligible, please feel free to submit your CV for review by our Admissions Team.

How much does the Masters in Management cost?

The total entry fees for the programme starting September 2011 were £24,000. The fees include the full one year of tuition and course materials (excluding textbooks).

Do you offer any financial aid?

London Business School has a limited number of scholarships available for Masters in Management students, including the Annual Funds scholarship. For additional information on financing, please click here.

Can I take the course part-time or via distance learning?

The Masters in Management programme runs full-time for one year, and classes typically run from 08.45-17.00, Monday to Friday. All classes are core, therefore students are required to attend all classes and engage in class discussion. As such, participating in the course via distance learning or on a part-time basis is not possible. Students are based at the Masters in Management student centre, located on our London Business School campus near Regent's Park, and must be in London to attend classes.

Do students need to be able to speak English?

Yes. All students on the programme need to be fluent in English. If their first language is not English, they will need to prove their fluency unless:

  • Their undergraduate degree (minimum two years) was conducted exclusively in English
  • They have lived in an English-speaking country for at least two years.

I would like to do a PhD. Is this Masters right for me?

If you are seeking to pursue a PhD and wish to complete a Masters in Management as the next stage in your education, then this is probably not the right programme for you. As this course aims to give students highly relevant and practical skills for the workplace, it is not appropriate for students who wish to engage in further study immediately after graduation. If you have concerns about your suitability for the course then you should contact the Masters in Management Admissions Office and we can discuss your individual situation in more depth.
