A four-week intensive programme to ensure your transition into general management is a success

During the programme you'll focus on developing the six key capabilities required to be a highly effective general manager and inspiring business leader:

  • leading people
  • evaluating and managing organisational performance
  • strategy and innovation
  • leading change
  • creating and delivering customer value
  • strategic decision making.

As well as world-class teaching, coaching support and personal development planning, you'll benefit from:

  • a range of activities and techniques to increase your physical wellbeing.

Programme content

A four-week intensive programme supported by an eight-month leadership development plan.

Pre-programme

  • Individual application review and interview with the Programme Director.
  • Completion of pre-programme preparation, including 360-degree survey.

Week 1:
Leading people:
You'll explore the transition to general management and identify the pitfalls (derailment factors).

Participants also work on key concepts including:

  • 360-degree feedback (in group sessions and one-to-one with executive coaches)
  • task and people leadership
  • individual and group behaviour
  • interpersonal style and personality dimensions
  • synergy
  • feedback.

Week 2:
Evaluation and managing organisational performance:

  • Valuing a company and cost of capital
  • Building performance over time.

Strategy and innovation:

  • strategy process versus strategy content
  • description versus prescription
  • aspiration versus delivery
  • business level versus group level
  • value creation versus value capture
  • impact of change: focus on your industry
  • value chains and strategic resources.

Guest speaker
(Optional) Finance and accounting workshop

Inter modular

  • Time to consolidate and practice learning between modules.
  • Support from core group and coach between modules.

Week 3:
Strategy and innovation:

  • scenario planning and evaluation frameworks
  • force field analysis.

Evaluating and managing organisational performance:

  • delivery value
  • macroeconomic risk and opportunity
  • cash flow and performance metrics.
  • (optional) Advanced corporate finance and risk management

Creating and delivering customer value:

  • Aligning business, brand and behaviour to deliver value.
  • Creating customers, capturing value including value pricing.

Optional workshops including:
Coaching, confidence building, negotiation skills, telling and selling for leadership.

Week 4:
Leading change

  • Navigating change.
  • Character of the corporation - understanding the role of culture and impact of change.
  • Strategic capability for change.

Strategic decision making: 

  • structuring managerial decision problems
  • decision making process and practice
  • creative analytical thinking
  • coping with risk and uncertainty
  • advanced risk assessment and management
  • reaching consensus and communicating recommendations.

You'll graduate as an alumnus of London Business School.

The Accelerated Development Programme has a modular format of 2 x 2 weeks.

Please note that the schedules for the modules are not identical for each session and therefore not interchangeable.  Please ensure that you or your nominee will be available for both modules as transfers are not permitted.
