Using models and innovation to improve competitiveness

What we do

The Management Science and Operations (MSO) faculty teach and research topics including:

  • decision modelling and analysis
  • optimisation and simulation techniques
  • information systems design and evaluation
  • operations, logistics, and supply chain management.

The group develops models to improve business performance and applies technology innovations to improve competitiveness.

Education

Management Science and Operations courses form a core part of the MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programmes

Specialist courses include:

  • advanced forecasting methodologies
  • computer-based financial modelling
  • market trading
  • project management
  • strategic modelling.

MSO also offers short executive courses and company-specific programmes on a range of topics.

Advanced Institute of Management Research

The Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM), a £20 million cross-council initiative, is located at London Business School.

Professor Chris Voss, Director of the Centre for Operations and Technology Management and AIM Senior Fellow, is leading several projects, looking at national competitiveness and how management affects organisational performance.

The research falls into three themes:

  • sustaining innovation while meeting competitive pressure
  • adapting promising practices to new circumstances
  • productivity and other performance indicators for the 21st century.
