Yumi holds a bachelor’s degree in society from the University of Tokyo. She started her career at a startup, and then moved into venture capital, based in Tokyo. In this firm, she covered investments in tech startups in Japan, India and South East Asian countries. As a capitalist, she was responsible for managing her portfolio, which primarily consisted of seed and early stage startups. Her role varied from deal sourcing, due diligence, contracting and value-up to exit.
Yumi decided to join the Masters in Finance programme at LBS primarily for two reasons: to pursue her financial expertise with experienced peers, and to explore the startup and VC industry further. Given the size of VC investments and good connections to Asian countries, she thought the location of London would fit her well. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Entrepreneurship Club at LBS, responsible for advising and selecting startups for a programme the club hosts. She is also involved in the Asia Club, where she is trying to connect LBS peers to the startup ecosystem across Asia.
