About me: Varun is a structural engineer and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Following his graduation, Varun spent more than six years at top-tier engineering services companies in the UK, New Zealand and Fiji, providing solutions to complex problems on projects in the power and transmission, commercial buildings, marine and civil infrastructure sectors. In his most recent role as a design engineer in the advanced technical services team of Robert Bird Group, Varun played a pivotal role in the delivery of several high-profile projects in Central London, such as Elizabeth House (a 30-storey development set to be the world's largest bridge-building) and the blast impact assessment for a busy London Underground station.

Varun decided to pursue an MBA with a long-term goal of leading an engineering business that shares his passion for building safe, sustainable and resilient built environments. He was drawn to the London Business School MBA programme due to its emphasis on collaboration and developing a global mindset.

Since joining LBS, Varun has taken an active role in the MBA programme as an academic representative. In addition, he is a training and development lead on the executive committee of the Consulting Club. In his free time, Varun enjoys watching and playing cricket, travelling and hiking.

Three topics I can be approached about: Transitioning from a non-business career; studying with a partner; consulting and technology
