My greatest challenge when I applied to business school was: Elaborating on my gap year experiences
About me: I grew up in China and moved to the UK for my undergraduate degree after finishing high school. I studied Economics at University College London, where I developed the most important part of my life philosophy – Constrained Optimisation. Unfortunately, COVID came up right before my graduation and I decided to take a gap year. During my undergraduate time, I worked as a consulting executive for UCL Business Society and organised many consulting-oriented events and case competitions on campus. I also led the UCL CONNECT volunteering project and contributed over 200 hours of Mandarin tutoring sessions with my team in a North London school. Most importantly, I developed my passion for consulting while interning at two consultancies. During my time with an Asia-focused consultancy, I was able to help one of the oil giants plan their market entry strategy into China’s electric vehicle charging market. While at one of the Big Four consultancies, I helped analyse the reporting and managing structure of a medtech startup and built their financial statements consolidation system from scratch. Having had all of these experiences and the aspiration of a career in consulting, I decided to join LBS and equip myself with all the analytical and technical skills that Masters in Analytics and Management could offer.
Three topics I can be approached about: Gap year planning; economics to analytics (programming); places to go in London
