About me: Maria Fernanda was born and raised in Queretaro, a city three hours away from Mexico City. She moved to Mexico City in 2010 to study actuarial science at Universidad Anáhuac México Norte, where she also completed an academic exchange semester in Paris. After graduating, she joined A.T. Kearney, starting as an analyst and building a five-year career. She worked in several industries ranging from oil and gas, chemicals and retail to CPG’s, and had the opportunity to work in many different geographies including Mexico, Colombia, Germany and the UAE. Midway through her consulting career, she decided to take some time off work and pursue a personal dream: to live and volunteer in Africa. She was part of a volunteering programme in Zambia, in which she lived in a local village with a host family and was a maths teacher in a community school. In her free time Maria likes doing exercise, especially HIIT and running, spending time with friends and family and climbing mountains. She has a special love for dogs, flowers, cheese and Mexican and Japanese food.

Maria considers herself a very passionate person; she likes travelling to different places, getting to know new people, learning new perspectives and tasting food from all over the world. This multicultural passion is one of the main reasons she joined LBS, as it offered the most international and diverse environment, full of brilliant people in an unparalleled location. Additionally, its strong curriculum, great faculty and international network will give her the tools for her next big career step. Maria is a Laidlaw scholar at LBS; she believes LBS and the Laidlaw Foundation will help her acquire the means to become a social-oriented and strong woman in business, to lead and implement changes in her future organisations. In addition to being a student ambassador, Maria is the social representative in her stream and an active member of the LatAm Club.
